morcom competed in pole vault @ 1948 summer olympics united states, finishing in 6th place after passing @ lesser heights, during rainstorm, missing @ height eventual winners clear of 4.20 meters. week later beat winning height 6 inches. in 1949 won third united states national championship.


he graduated degree in biology , went on coach track , field @ university of pennsylvania 35 years before returning coach in new hampshire. started 1 of first high school track teams girls in 1954 , opened penn athletic facilities poor minority high school students. in 1956, coach of usa women s olympic track team.
