the iaaf commenced recognition of world records in 1912, , indoor world records after 1987. in 2000, iaaf rule 260.18a (formerly 260.6a) amended, world records (as opposed indoor world records ) can set in facility or without roof. rule not applied retroactively, , has, far, affected men s , women s pole vault. women s record has been advanced 9 times indoors 3 different women, each ratified world record. last record set indoors in 2004. sergey bubka s 1993 pole vault world indoor record of 6.15 m not considered world record, because set before new rule came effect. in february 2014, bubka s record surpassed indoors renaud lavillenie jumping 6.16 m qualifies both indoor world record , world record.
