as australian moke production wound down, manufacturing transferred british leyland s subsidiary in portugal, made 8,500 of californian mokes in setúbal ima plant between 1980 , 1984. in 1984 production transferred vendas novas plant. these mokes identical late-model australian mokes; soon, however, altered use then-current british production mini saloon components, including standard-length mini rear trailing arms , 12–in wheels modern low-profile tyres, saloon had acquired during moke s absence europe.


in 1990, british leyland (by called rover group) sold moke name cagiva—a motorcycle manufacturer in bologna, italy. production continued in portugal until 1993, when cagiva transferred tooling factory in italy intention of restarting production in 1995—which never did. since cagiva did not own mini name, 1500 cars built sold mokes . brought total production run of mokes , moke derivatives 50,000.
