he born in edinburgh son of david mekie frse, local builder , amateur geographer, living @ waverley park on spring gardens east of holyrood palace.


from 1935 1955 professor of surgery @ university of singapore. returned edinburgh director of post graduate medicine @ edinburgh university, taking on running of surgical museum @ same time. introduced first policy of selective display within museum.


in 1962 elected fellow of royal society of edinburgh. proposers sir william wallace, george montgomery, james kirkwood slater , douglas guthrie.


he died on 17 november 1989 , buried in grange cemetery in south edinburgh. grave lies within southern half of western extension.
