at brocket hall, lady mount stephen entertained prince (the future edward vii) , princess of wales, duke , duchess of connaught , duchess of teck. introduced canoe scotland while living @ faskally, perthshire , fished husband in canada , rivers of scotland. died in london on 10 april 1896, , buried in lemsford churchyard, adjoining brocket hall. couple had no biological children, had adopted young woman in montreal, alice brooke, purportedly daughter of vermont clergyman.



alice maude stephen (d.1934) d.b.e., (born alice brooke). adopted father introduced to, , in 1873 married, henry northcote, 1st baron northcote. in 1919, appointed dame commander of order of british empire. died without children.
