Technical aspects HVDC BorWin2

the land converter station @ diele.

borwin2 uses voltage sourced converters (vsc) convert ac dc , again, using 4.5kv igbts switching elements. 1 converter provided @ each end of link dc voltage of ±300 kv , transmission capacity of 800 mw. converters, built siemens, use modular multi-level converter technology, in symmetrical monopole configuration. each converter station equipped two, three-phase transformers, each rated @ 590mva (offshore) , 585mva (onshore). each converter valve equipped dry-type valve reactor of 50mh.

the offshore converter located on borwin beta platform, built nordic yards in warnemünde. topside of platform of float-over type designed floated out installation site , jacked onto submerged supporting structure using support legs integral structure. topside has total weight of 12000 tonnes , measures 72.5 m x 51 m x 25 m high.

each of 2 300 kv cables linking borwin beta onshore substation has total length of 200 km, of 125 km sea cable , 75 km underground land cable. cables cross small island of norderney and, having reached mainland, continue, land cables, onshore converter station @ diele. cables supplied prysmian , use extruded cross-linked polyethylene insulation.
