lutsk maintained economic relations hanseatic league. in 1341, residents of toruń granted rights trading in lutsk. artisans brought goods noted in toruń customs register of 14th century. in 1374, toruń advisor t. fon der linde sent fabrics lutsk flemish. there examples of rhine stone products among archeological artifacts. 1 of toruń s merchants, relative of nicolaus copernicus mother of family watzenrode, died in lutsk in 1386.


in addition cities of hanseatic league, lutsk traded other european cities , countries. wool , silk fabrics, wine, sugar, gold , luxuries, fish, , pharmacy products imported french regions; wine, copper, , knives hungary; cloth czechoslovakia. while lutsk exported honey, wax, fish, bread, cattle, leather, resin, tar, etc. lutsk main bread trade center in volyn few centuries. closest cities lutsk – lublin, lviv, kraków, volodymyr, kamianets etc. – commercial partners.


the market square shaped rectangle church situated @ each angle: 3 orthodox churches , 1 catholic, (saint peter , paul cathedral). later, armenian church settled near market. town hall, gutted fire in 18th century, situated on south side of square. market surrounded brick buildings deep cellars.
