herakles sank along barge bulk on 3 march 2004 @ around 00:30 (utc+02) in bothnian sea. combination had left oxelösund 2 days earlier , heading north barge laden coal. on 2 march ran storm , captain, not if vessel safely turned around in such conditions seek shelter closer coast, decided evacuate half of crew helicopter. when port engine began overheating , later starboard engine lost power, combination no longer able keep bow wind , began drift uncontrollably in storm. remaining crew evacuated , shortly afterwards herakles-bulk foundered in shallows near swedish grundkallen lighthouse.
