in response concerns on safety, negative publicity, , difficulty in getting insurance sigma chi announced zero-tolerance stance on issue of hazing on january 31, 2005.

2009

the chapter @ university of nebraska suspended hazing , alcohol consumption violations. hazing pledges endured included taking shots of tabasco hot sauce , vodka until vomited, ordered strenuous exercises while big brothers threw objects @ them, , 1 pledge randomly chosen , screamed in agony anally penetrated vibrating dildo hired female stripper during initiation party. 8 members arrested , charged hazing , providing alcohol minors.

2012

the chapter @ university of alabama sued former pledge after severely beaten fraternity members @ party resulted in serious injuries, depression, , severe anxiety. chapter cited providing alcohol underage people.

2013

the chapter @ auburn university suspended organization (with university s support) hazing of new members in 2005.
in 2013, chapter @ university of dayton suspended 3 years damaging store s property, urinating inside store , exposing passersby.
in 2013, fraternity member @ westminster college served 120 days in jail violently beating 1 of fraternity brothers.
in 2013, chapter @ university of central florida placed on suspension after photos surfaced on social media of pledges being forced consume alcohol , sick over-consuming alcohol. several other fraternities on campus accused of hazing , alcohol abuse pledges same semester led president of university temporarily banning greek life activities on campus.

2014

three sigma chi members @ james madison university found guilty of sexually assaulting female student , distributing recording of incident. members banned campus after graduation.
the chapter @ university of west virginia had 6 members arrested , cited morgantown police department hazing pledges , facilitating underage drinking. after party hosted fraternity, several members dropped off 19 pledges (most of whom intoxicated) @ random location far away campus without cellphones , wallets , told them find way fraternity house on campus part of team building exercise.

2015

the university of houston suspended sigma chi chapter hazing. university suspended 5 students pending investigation, , forwarded findings district attorney. university has accused national organization of withholding information chapter s activities. chapter later closed national organization.
westminster college , national fraternity jointly suspended school s chapter. suspension in response hazing, academic problems, , racist , sexist comments members on social media.
the chapter @ indiana university of pennsylvania suspended national governing board after woman violently pinned down , raped student not member or pledge of fraternity.
a sigma chi member @ utah state university kicked out fraternity after being charged 2 counts of rape , aggravated sexual assault. attacks believed have taken place @ fraternity house.
the chapter @ brown university suspended facilitating sexual misconduct , hosting unauthorized party alcohol.
the chapter @ louisiana state university shut down repeatedly hazing pledges , illegal drug use in fraternity house. 2 months before chapter closure 21 years old fraternity member died of heroin overdose.

2016

the chapter @ university of south carolina (usc) shut down mentally , physically abusing pledges. sigma chi 5th fraternity @ usc closed or suspended since fall 2014.
the chapter @ university of arkansas suspended repeatedly hazing pledges , violating fraternity , school s no-hazing policy.
a former pledge @ university of arizona sued chapter after fraternity brothers blamed him nonfatal overdose of female party attendee.
