special situations

the flagship samena special situations fund (sssf i) launched in august 2008, raising us$180 million amidst 1 of challenging capital raising environments in history. five-year closed ended fund private equity structure, seeks opportunities in listed companies in samena region have stable mature businesses strong management , technical knowhow, enabling them take advantage of cross border opportunities.

the fund reported have exited twelve , partially exited 2 out of 18 investments has made far. understood have repaid 70% of capital investors june 2014. of profitable investments fund made in eicher motors , voltamp transformers in india, rubicon offshore international, cse global in singapore, saudi hollandi bank in saudi arabia, union national bank in uae , renaissance services in oman.

as follow sssf i, company launched samena special situations fund ii, had final closing in june 2013 of us$340 million. seven-year closed-ended structure, fund has investment strategy similar predecessor, added emphasis on private placement , co-investment opportunities.

the fund s investment strategy based on non-leveraged, hybrid investment model, consisting of 2 distinct portfolios: core investments form strategic portfolio, , more tactical non-core investments held trading or re-sale.

at present, samena capital’s credit platform consists of samena india credit fund, launched in november 2013 , invests in indian high yield corporate credit , structured credit opportunities .

samena capital established credit business in february 2010 launch of samena asia credit fund, high conviction portfolio of high-yield bonds , other credit investments medium-term maturity or investment horizon. ran samena credit opportunities, co-advised reyl asset management. samena asia credit fund has subsequently been closed, samena capital having made profitable exit business.

hedge fund seeding, managed accounts , bespoke products

to take advantage of consolidation of asset management industry during global financial crisis of 2008, samena capital acquired asian hedge fund seeding platform vision investment management in may 2009. platform has since been renamed samena asia managers (sam), , manages samena angel fund approximately us$80 million in aum. fund provides seed capital stage, asia-focused hedge funds and/or invests in niche hedge funds. 2 of successful hedge funds has seeded/accelerated chicago-based phalanx capital , greater china long/short equity fund. phalanx capital won best multi strategy fund award asiahedge in 2009 , nominated in category again in 2010.

in april 2011, reyl & cie, 1 of leading swiss banking , asset management groups, decided partner samena capital in joint venture combined sam s hedge fund seeding business reyl , cie s wealth , asset management expertise. jv has been profitable since inception.
