unlike of fellow artists, armitage not discouraged experience of working on parliament frescos. during summer of 1858 spent several weeks research @ assisi, prior executing frescos (since painted over) in roman catholic church of st. john evangelist, islington, when friend artist george frederic watts modelled head of apostle. armitage did frescos @ st. marylebone parish church , st. mark s church, london, , monochrome fresco @ university hall, gordon square, london, dr williams s library. commemorated lawyer , diarist henry crabb robinson surrounded distinguished literary , artistic friends, including william wordsworth, samuel taylor coleridge, mary lamb , brother charles lamb, william blake , john flaxman. papered on in mid-1950s, contained 48 life-size portraits.


other decorative work includes part of terracotta frieze, triumph of art , letters, @ royal albert hall, armitage contributed 2 of sixteen sections (princes, art patrons , artists , group of philosophers, sages , students). contributed referred kensington valhalla @ south kensington museum (now victoria , albert museum), when responsible depicting benozzo gozzali.
