by 1963 la monte young had formulated concept of dream house, term appears in album title , defines artistic work played continuously , exist living organism life , tradition of own .


the shandar record includes music 1 of young s dream houses.


young s first continuous electronic sound environment created in loft on church street, new york city in september 1966 (where still lives , dream house still exists) sine wave generators. environment maintained continuously september 1966 january 1970, being turned off listen other music , study contrast between extended periods in , periods of silence. young , zazeela worked, sang , lived in , studied effects on , visitors.


in july 1970 model short-term dream house displayed public @ galerie heiner friedrich in munich, germany. later, model dream houses presented in various locations of europe , united states.


the work presented within these dream houses consisted of total environmental set of frequency structures in media of sound , light . sound produced both sine wave generators , theatre of eternal music, last playing @ prescribed intervals.


zazeela designed 2 light sources produce frequencies in light medium: continuous installation of floating sculptures , color sources, , series of slides entitled ornamental lightyears tracery .
