the great western railway took on operation of cornwall minerals railway 1 october 1877 , amalgamated company on 1 july 1896. in meantime, line had been converted 4 ft 8 ⁄2 in (1,435 mm) standard gauge along other lines west of exeter on weekend of 21 may 1892, enabling through trains burngullow st dennis junction.


the railway has ever carried goods traffic. line no longer extends st dennis, original line still carries china clay parkandillack fowey.
