Plot Alice in Wonderland (1985 film)

part 1 – alice in wonderland

the first part opens alice helping mother set table tea time. although thankful daughter s help, mother tells alice still not grown-up enough join adults @ tea. alice goes outside see sister (played natalie s real-life older sister sharee gregory), gets bored of reading book no pictures. sister tells understand when grows up, alice thinks grown (after all, s 7 , half). while playing kitten, dinah, white rabbit comes running by, saying s late. wondering going, alice follows him , tumbles rabbit hole. (unlike book , movie versions, rabbit hole appears dark , spooky.)

alice finds herself in hall many doors, , of them locked. on table key can use open 1 small door. yet door far small fit head in. small bottle appears labeled drink me . comes table , puts lips. doing this, shrinks right size door, can no longer reach key open it. sees small box opens , finds little cake words eat me on it. grows on 9 feet tall. frustrated thought of being stuck @ 9 feet tall, begins cry. tears fall on floor , flow under cracks. white rabbit appears, frightened of giant alice runs away dropping fan , gloves. using fan makes alice shrink again size small enough crawl 1 of cracks, takes diving in pool of tears.

while swimming in pool of own tears, meets lory bird, dodo bird , mouse, tells why hates dogs , cats ( hate dogs , cats ). alice catches white rabbit. mistakes alice housemaid mary ann , orders go fan , gloves house. while searching house, alice curiously finds drink me bottle , makes sprout full nine-foot character once again. angry @ alice, rabbit , butler pat pig try employ rabbit s head gardener, bill lizard remove alice pulling out chimney. having tried unsuccessfully white rabbit , pat begin throwing berries @ turn little cakes. eats 1 , shrinks size. after running away meets caterpillar tells story ( old, father william ). goes house of duchess , pepper loving, plate throwing cook. finding house violent , hateful, takes duchess baby away, turns pig. meets cheshire cat, tells can t out of land ( there s no way home ). gives directions see either march hare or mad hatter, warns alice they, along else, mad. alice finds mad hatter, march hare, , dormouse having outdoor tea party, , sits down join them. tea time entertainment mad hatter, not version of twinkle, twinkle little star, sings alice song of own ( laugh ). upset rudeness of mad tea party, alice runs off on quest white rabbit, , meets baby fawn in forest, normal thing s seen far ( why people act if re crazy? ).

alice stumbles upon doorway leads rose garden of queen of hearts, yells ( off head! ) , plays croquet, or @ least watches others play. leaves visit gryphon mock turtle, sings how there far sense in world ( nonsense ), called attend trial.

the trial deals knave of hearts, accused of having stolen queen s tarts. there no proof did it, again there no proof did not it, nor there proof else did it, proves him guilty, according queen. alice argues ways of court, inexplicably begins grow larger again. alice continues argue queen , though tells hold tongue alice refuses , tells queen hold hers. queen becoming angry, yells off head! , has guards chase giant alice, hardly afraid of them re nothing pack of cards . alice keeps running until trips , falls , finds herself home, in normal size.

she runs happily home, finds nobody there. hearing cat dinah sees on other side of mirror, along parents, can see own reflection, , can t see or hear daughter. alice not know how through other side sits @ nearby chair, , notices large strange book next , starts reading it. poem called jabberwocky scary monster. trying prove not afraid, keeps reading, gets scared room becomes dark , jabberwocky appears in house.

part 2 – through looking-glass

the second part opens alice @ home trapped behind living-room mirror , invisible parents. jabberwocky scares alice , wishes away, disappears hides behind chessboard, knocking over. sees has knocked pieces onto floor , begins placing them on table, realizes alive, can t hear her. white queen, white king, red king (patrick culliton) , red queen decide alice s lifting them tornado . alice looks around room , sees painting of owl has come life. owl explains until overcomes fear of growing up, unable return real world. until stuck in looking-glass world, reverse of expected. informed owl jabberwocky may come time , reveals creation of alice s own fears. alice looks around , in forest again.

along way once more alice has interesting conversation talking flowers. alice meets red queen once more, time same size her. tells take place of 1 of pawns of white queen in giant game of chess. alice play pawn, , finds herself on second square. red queen tells must reach eighth square become queen, , when becomes queen may go home.

she boards train fourth square, getting compartment goat, gentleman in paper suit, , horse. hurt teasing, , gibberish rantings, calls goat silly billy goat. realizing train dangerously picking speed , has no emergency stop cord, alice pulls thing can think of, goat s whiskers. train comes screeching stop , conductor tells off train.

once gets off train, asks gnat, if s in fourth square. says , warns going woods. in woods alice meets tweedledum , tweedledee, sing , dance proper edict of greeting 1 ( shake hands ). after confirming aren t in least bit tired sing alice story of ( walrus , carpenter ). after realizing walrus , carpenter ate oysters, runs woods. bumps white queen again, sings of logic of ( jam tomorrow, jam yesterday ) never ever jam today consequence of living backwards , ends turning herself sheep. chased giant bird, thought jabberwocky, , meets humpty dumpty. jabberwocky appears again when alice can t control fears, , flees. pursues jabberwocky knocks humpty dumpty off of wall.

alice meets white king , messenger, haigha, bring alice see ( lion , unicorn ) fighting crown. lion , unicorn call temporary truce , intrigued alice, whom perceive fabulous monster . alice hands out tray of cake, every times cuts in half, turns whole cake again! explain looking-glass cake , , must past round first, cut after. flees group after deafening barrage of drums begins play, apparently can hear. thereafter, captured red knight, rescued white knight, sings , dances way eighth square ( dancing ). finally, alice reaches eighth square, becomes queen! meets red queen , white queens, invite each other alice s dinner party. have few queenly tests ( can addition ), , words of wisdom ( emotions ). white queen, exhausted excitement, falls asleep on alice s lap, , red queen sings soothing lullaby ( hush-a-bye lady ). alice pines mother , father, fears ll never see again. alice finds way castle, great feast has been set in honor, many of characters in attendance journey. ( looking-glass world )

alice appreciates feast tells wants go home. present brought her, out of comes jabberwock. beast starts frightening , terrorizing in castle. white knight tries rescue alice, fails. alice talks owl tells act brave way jabberwocky gone proving s not real. alice manages find way mirror , home, gets confront jabberwocky. telling him in imagination , not believe in him, in billow of smoke , lightning disappears. alice slumps chair , woken mother. calling alice tell old enough join grown-ups @ tea time. alice heads upstairs change tea, sees wonderland characters in mirror, , sing farewell ( alice ). tearfully, alice waves them goodbye, movie ends.
