service history

ara sailed on 7 february territory of hawaii. upon arrival @ pearl harbor, ship reported service squadron 8 duty. on 4 march, ara sailed in convoy bound marshall islands , discharged cargo @ majuro , kwajalein atolls. ara left marshalls on 14 april; made brief stop @ pearl harbor on 28 april; , ship got underway port hueneme, california. after loading new cargo, ara in pearl harbor on 29 may. ship sailed on 7 june, task group (tg) 51.6, bound eniwetok; anchored there on 18 june; , remained through 23 july.

south pacific

on 23 july, ara ordered proceed guam deliver army personnel island. remained offshore until 3 august, , disembarked troops , unloaded equipment. ara got underway eniwetok on 20 august, , arrived 4 days later. after reprovisioning period, transport sailed hawaii , moored @ pearl harbor on 9 september.

supplying guam , saipan

at pearl harbor, loaded cargo destined roi namur , majuro , sailed on 19 september, marshalls. 4 october 20 november, supplies discharged , taken on board @ majuro , kwajalein. on 25 november, ship headed ulithi. 5 days later, ara arrived @ atoll. sailed again on 8 december, marianas unload remainder of provisions @ guam , saipan. ara called @ eniwetok on 23 december, , continued on tarawa. there, refilled cargo holds , sailed on 4 january 1945, makin island.

shuttling cargo between island bases

during first 2 months of 1945, ara repeated cargo shuttle services. ports of call included kwajalein, eniwetok, ulithi, guam, tinian, , saipan. saipan, ara headed hawaii , reached pearl harbor on 20 march. 2 days later, ara sailed san pedro, california, arrived on 1 april, repairs. after completing trials, ara sailed on 6 may, tacoma, washington, load cargo , remained there until 23 may, when began steaming independently philippines.

supplying troops in philippines , saipan

ara began discharging cargo @ samar, philippines, on 25 june. received orders sail new zealand , got underway on 6 july. ara moored @ auckland on 21 july, , commenced loading supplies earmarked marines stationed on saipan. departed auckland on 27 july, , arrived @ saipan on 14 august. next day, while still there, japan capitulated on 15 august. ara set course west coast on 21 august, entered san francisco bay on 9 september, , began voyage repairs.
