a legend has during creation, demons madhu-kaitabha stole vedas brahma, , vishnu took hayagriva form recover them. 2 bodies of madhu , kaitabha disintegrated twelve pieces (two heads, 2 torsos, 4 arms , 4 legs). these considered represent twelve seismic plates of earth. yet legend has during creation, vishnu compiled vedas in hayagrīva form.


some consider hayagriva 1 of dashavataras of supreme personality of godhead. along Śrī krishna, shrī rama , shri narasimha considered important avatar of supreme personality of godhead.
