the band originated in industrial town of dunaújváros under name október , playing covers. end of high school, band dispersed. kiss brothers, tibor , endre, got group in 1991, , renamed quimby .

1991 1995: saloon start - jerrycan dance

in 1992 band s first cassette entitled side down made available, featuring english-language tunes sea, stink, give shoes, side down, never by, , policeman . band s style compared chansons , cabaret songs period between world wars. band played @ pubs in pest. 1993 personnel consisted of tibor kiss (vocals , guitar), endre kiss (guitar), livius varga (percussion , vocals), tamás szén molnár (saxophone), ferenc mikuli (bass guitar), , Ákos medve (drums). in 1993 recorded second album, sip of story. album came out on cassette , had english lyrics. during period band 1 of successful club bands in budapest, , popular on college , festival circuit.

at point elder kiss brother, endre, left band. replaced young piano player, szilárd balanyi, born in balatonfüred. new line-up band recorded next album, jerrycan dance, came out on cd in limited edition. album in english , begins show of main characteristics seen in present band.

1995 1997: language change - majom-tangó

in 1995, band decided focus more on writing songs in hungarian. summer of 1996 new album finished: majom-tangó (monkey tango). album contains hungarian songs, there 3 english ones. album has eclectic style: there several folk songs featured in usual chanson-epic style of quimby, roma , latin folk music; reggae , psychedelic effects incorporated. majom-tangó direct antecedent of present style.

1997 1999: breakthrough - diligram

the release of majom-tangó led rise in popularity on hungarian music scene. band moved being phenomenon on alternative stage wider popularity appearance of diligramm (loonygramme) in december 1997. diligramm complete work of mature band. lyrics crisper, musical palette more colorful; band found own style. cd introduced video , single, once there time , , memorable cd release concert. quimby enjoyed many successes in live performances, more concerts in front of larger audiences. in spring of 1998 hungarian press chose diligramm album of year.

1999 2000: mature band - Ékszerelmére

the new album Ékszerelmére highly anticipated before released in november 1999. producing record proved little complex when in year livius varga lost tape containing ideas of new songs while traveling on tram in budapest. Ékszerelmére more mature , composed previous album. music strict playful, uniform discursive, realistic ascendent, , traditionalist. while band uses implementations of modern music, lyrics cruel , ironic; stories , verbal psychedelia present. after recording of Ékszerelmére band released tamás molnár (saxophone). after long search place filled józsef kárpáti, trumpet , piano player band andersen . band stepped on stage @ year s sziget festival in form.

2000 2002: morzsák , káosz amigos

during period band performed @ festival concerts in hungary , abroad, , went on mini-tour of germany. in spring of 2001 quimby released new album called morzsák és szilánkok (crumbs , splinters). contained remixes featuring unknown, young, talented remixers, concert recordings of older songs. tibor kiss singer said album presented material sort of continuous modality, film, building upon each other 1 after other .

in 2002, album called káosz amigos (chaos amigos) did not disappoint fans. album takes musical oeuvre of quimby new point of view. musical-lyrical adventure in troubled, intensive, vibrating, sensitive, dynamic, tragic, humorous, tragicomic world. album contains 10 songs in 43 minutes. in spite of shorter playtime album colorful, exciting , amusing musical roller-coaster. songs memorable not hits in usual sense. there spanish-like chansons stiff rhythms, interesting guitar work, agile , bop songs. there fancy, moderate, slow songs , rap, childhood sayings. album features percussion instruments, guitar, bass, keyboards, modern electronics , trumpet newest member of band, józsef kárpáti.

2002 2004: hiatus

the band had completed touring new album in hungary when frontman tibor kiss needed extended break rest , relaxation, band went on hiatus. though wasn t known ahead of time how long break be, pause lasted until 2004. after intensive probation period , return concert, quimby rejoined hungarian public music scene once again enormous power. full-house concerts held in budapest , other venues, along successful night invasion concert in spring 2004 , appearances @ big summer festivals, including sziget festival. band continued left off: reviewers , fans said band in shape, perhaps better before.

2005 present: kilégzés , family tugedör

the album kilégzés (exhalation, october 2005) became important work in band s history. interesting milestone because opened new era artistic point of view. memories previous phase presented in new context, in re-evaluated form. tibor kiss doesn’t mince now, there no nostalgia, no great truths revealed, music ironic, emotional, expressive style.

in 2006 band reached 15-year milestone. quimby celebrated special jubilee publishing greatest hits recording , dvd called family tugedör. gave double concert in katona józsef theatre, 1 in petőfi csarnok venue , concert on 1 january 2007 called magic music . work continues 2 releases in 2009, ep (ajjajjaj) , full length album (lármagyűjtögető).
