as of january 2017, gripen aircraft have been involved in @ least 10 incidents, including 9 hull-loss accidents, 1 loss of life.


the first 2 crashes, in 1989 , 1993 respectively, occurred during public displays of gripen , resulted in considerable negative media reports. first crash filmed sveriges television news crew , led calls previous critics of project cancel development altogether. second crash occurred in empty area on island of långholmen during 1993 stockholm water festival tens of thousands of spectators present. decision display gripen on large crowds publicly criticised, , compared 1989 crash. both 1989 , 1993 crashes related flight control software issues. last crash occurred on 14 january 2017 @ hat yai international airport, thailand, during airshow thai children s day; pilot did not survive.
