band program

the milton band includes milton high school marching band, 2 jazz ensembles, jazz combo, 3 concert bands, percussion ensemble, , milton indoor drumline. marching band has competed in many regional competitions. have received many awards, , had honor of participating in london new year s day parade in 2000. in recent years, wind ensemble has received invitations perform @ university of alabama , university of georgia. milton band under direction of chris shumick, percussion directed john herndon. milton s indoor drumline has won regional , national awards well. in 2010, 2011, , 2012, mid 1 of finalists in wgi championships in dayton, ohio. marching band participated in new york s veteran s day parade in 2014.

choral music added curriculum in 1951. choral program consists of 3 choirs.

chorale - milton chorale advanced mixed ensemble @ milton. members of ensemble selected audition , 9th-12th grade men , women.
women s select - women s select advanced women s ensemble @ milton. members of ensemble selected audition , 9th-12th grade women.
concert choir - concert choir open 9th-12th grade men , women. no audition required. entry-level choir freshmen.

the milton choirs consistently receive superior ratings in performance , sight-singing @ georgia music educators large group performance evaluation, @ other festivals across south. have performed @ carnegie hall in new york city 3 times. groups have performed in honolulu, hawaii; orlando, florida; , gatlinburg, tennessee.

all 3 choirs perform 3 times per year @ milton high school auditorium, in fall, winter, , spring. various other group , solo performances occur during year.

students have been selected participate in georgia music educators association all-state chorus, governor s honors program, district honor chorus, american choral director association honor choruses, spivey hall honor choruses, , other honor choirs. students milton have gone on study music , participate in college music programs including belmont university, columbus state university, georgia southern, louisiana state university, mercer university, shorter college, stetson university, , university of georgia.

drew bowers has been director of choral activities @ milton high school since appointment in 2007. conducts chorale, women s select, , concert choir, , teaches advanced placement music theory.

drama department

milton has award-winning theatre program led larry smith, david hopkins , sim jones. milton theatre won georgia theatre conference production of musical starmites , came in second in state 1 act competition play peter , starcatcher. high school in country cirque program, brought school director larry smith.

orchestra program

the milton high school orchestra directed richard bomba. longest tenured member of fine arts department @ milton high school. since arrival, orchestra has grown 32 members on 110. orchestra program consists chamber, sinfonia, , concert orchestras. orchestras perform individually , @ least 4 times per year. orchestra arranges full symphony concert members elite mhs band program. orchestra hosts multiple ensembles , quartets , encourages them (and individual players) perform throughout local area in outreach program. mhs orchestra has been invited national orchestra festival, , has won smoky mountain music festival. individuals in mhs orchestra have earned chairs @ all-state, asyo, myso, lso, fcho, , spivey chamber orchestra, including first chair placement on several occasions. in 2016 graduated bassist jan, named salutatorian, along violinist agni, named valedictorian.
