the magdeburg law legalized tendencies formed long ago. social development caused nascence of new middle class – bourgeoisie. lived in special quarter in lutsk. city divided 3 main areas – upper castle, roundabout castle , bourgeoisie territory, located west of castles. clergy, ministers, princes , magnates lived in castles. privileged classes prohibited living on bourgeoisie territory. magdeburg law concerned market square , managed bourgeoisie rights , obligations.
according magdeburg law, elective government created – magistrate consisting of 2 houses: higher court led vogt , lower council led mayor. these houses settled in town hall , there municipal trade measures , scales established. square used trade , social , political events such royal , magistrate declarations, executions, , other meetings. lutsk granted privilege of holding 3 annual fairs. trade in square assisted many coins corresponded political , commercial relations between volyn , other regions. there many coins kiev , novgorod, soms golden horde, prague groschen, lithuanian , polish coins , others. in 1385–1388 lutsk had mint produced coins of grand duchy of lithuania.
