within each conference, 4 division winners , 2 wild card teams (the top 2 non-division winners best overall regular season records) qualified playoffs. 4 division winners seeded 1 through 4 based on overall won-lost-tied record, , wild card teams seeded 5 , 6. nfl not use fixed bracket playoff system, , there no restrictions regarding teams same division matching in round. in first round, dubbed wild-card playoffs or wild-card weekend, third-seeded division winner hosts sixth seed wild card, , fourth seed hosts fifth. 1 , 2 seeds each conference receive bye in first round. in second round, divisional playoffs, number 1 seed hosts worst surviving seed first round (seed 4, 5 or 6), while number 2 seed play other team (seed 3, 4 or 5). 2 surviving teams each conference s divisional playoff games meet in respective afc , nfc conference championship games, hosted higher seed. although super bowl, fourth , final round of playoffs, played @ neutral site, designated home team based on annual rotation conference.
