the niue constitution act vests executive authority in majesty queen in right of new zealand , governor-general of new zealand. constitution specifies in everyday practice sovereignty exercised niue cabinet of ministers, composed of premier , 3 other ministers. premier , ministers members of niue legislative assembly, nation s parliament.


the assembly consists of 20 elected members, 14 of whom elected electors of each village constituency, 6 registered voters in constituencies. electors must new zealand citizens, resident @ least 3 months, , candidates must electors , resident 12 months. born in niue must register on electoral roll.


the speaker elected assembly , first official elected in first sitting of legislative assembly following election. speaker calls nominations premier; candidate votes 20 members elected. premier selects 3 other members form cabinet of ministers, executive arm of government. other 2 organs of government, following westminster model, legislative assembly , judiciary. general elections take place every 3 years, on 6 may 2017.


the judiciary independent of executive , legislature. there high court , court of appeal, appeals judicial committee of privy council in london.
