with expansion of irish economy in 1990s, during celtic tiger years, drogheda became 1 of main secondary locations people work in dublin buy house, property prices in capital became prohibitive many first-time home buyers. aided expansion of transport infrastructure in direction of drogheda i.e. swords , balbriggan bypasses, boyne river bridge , increased number of commuter trains serving town. partly result, downtown area of drogheda has redeveloped, , 2 large shopping centres have opened, while several national , international retailers have opened stores. in 2007 partial pedestrianisation of town s main street, west street, completed. on south quay in space of former lakeland dairies premises (an old industrial area), scotch hall shopping centre , d hotel completed in november 2005. new pedestrian bridge extends north quay, @ mayoralty street, complex. phase 2 of development, shortly commence construction, extend further down along river front, on site of former irish oil cake works. have extension shopping centre , hotel, new apartments, cinema, , riverside plaza.
