katsudō shashin consists of series of cartoon images on fifty frames of celluloid strip , lasts 3 seconds @ sixteen frames per second. depicts young boy in sailor suit writes kanji characters 活動写真 (katsudō shashin, moving picture ) right left, turns viewer, removes hat, , bows. katsudō shashin provisional title film, actual title unknown.


unlike in traditional animation, frames not produced photographing images, rather impressed onto film using stencil. done kappa-ban, device stencilling magic lantern slides. images in red , black on strip of 35 mm film ends fastened in loop continuous viewing.
