flushing high school, founded in 1875, oldest public high school in new york city.


the school, located on northern boulevard, housed in distinctive neo-gothic style building featuring turrets , gargoyles. built in 1912-1915, wing added in 1954. wpa’s federal art project funded 4 murals installed in 1938.


the building designated landmark new york city landmarks preservation commission in 1991. listed on national register of historic places in 1992.
