according mexican government, alex stopped production of 420,000 barrels (67,000 m) of oil per day gulf of mexico, corresponds quarter of country s total oil production. pemex evacuated 66 personnel oil rigs offshore of tamaulipas , veracruz, petrobras evacuated oil rig in gulf, while royal dutch shell evacuated 930 personnel rigs in area. in total, 6 rigs , 69 production platforms faced evacuations, causing 21% of u.s. gulf oil output , 14% of u.s. gulf natural-gas flows remain offline.


the storm expected impact operations regarding deepwater horizon oil spill, both containment , cleanup operations being affected repercussions storm (such wave action , wind direction). although alex stayed relatively away site, storm caused bp delay plans increase oil capture leak week. tarballs spill large apples washed onshore around grand isle, other parts of louisiana, alabama , florida, high storm tides created hurricane.
